Today the stock price of multiplex players PVR and Inox touched its 52 weeks high. The stock of PVR was trading up by 5.02% in early trade to Rs 2002.80 and Inox Leisure stock was trading up by 15.88% to Rs 559.15.
Yesterday, both these companies announced that the board of the companies has approved a merger deal between PVR and Inox. After this merger, the combined entity will be called PVR Inox Limited which will have more than 1500 screens at the pan India level.
Shareholders of Inox will get 3 shares of PVR for every 10 shares they own. PVR promoters will hold a 10.62% stake in the combined entity and the same Inox promoters will hold a 16.66% stake.
This merger can play a key role for both these cinema joints to compete with the OTT platform. Apart from this, theater penetration in India is also low in comparison to other developing countries, which indicates a high growth potential.
And the multiplex space seating capacity restriction is also being gradually removed so that the revenue of these companies can come at pre-pandemic levels.
