What is SSC CHSL Exam and what is its full form
SSC CHSL (Staff Selection Commission Combined Higher Secondary Level) is a national exam and is conducted once in a year by SSC (Staff Selection Commission).
This exam is completed in 3 Tiers.
- Tier 1 is online.
- Tier 2 is offline.
- Tier 3 is a skill test.
This exam is conducted for the posts of LDC (Lower Division Clerk), JSA (Junior Secretariat Assistant), P.A (Postal Assistant), S.A (Sorting Assistant) and DEO (Data Entry Operator).
SSC CHSL exam Eligibility Criteria
Apply for the post of LDC (Lower Division Clerk), JSA (Junior Secretariat Assistant), PA (Postal Assistant), SA (Sorting Assistant) and DEO (Data Entry Operator), you must have passed 12th class from a recognized board.
To be eligible for the post of data entry operator (DEO) in the Office of Comptroller & Auditor General of India (C&AG), you must have passed 12th class Science from a recognized board.
It is also important for you to have a subject mathematics in this.
To appear in the SSC CHSL exam, the candidate must be a citizen of India. Citizens of Bhutan and Nepal are also eligible.
Apart from these, people who have migrated from countries like Tibet, Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Zambia and Ethiopia are also considered eligible in certain conditions.
SSC CHSL exam age limit
The age limit for SSC CHSL exam is 18 to 27 years and age relaxation is also available in it, such as:
- Age relaxation of 3 years to OBC Candidate
- SC/ST Candidate gets 5 years of age relaxation.
- Ex-Serviceman General gets 3 years of age relaxation.
- Ex-Serviceman OBC gets 6 years of age relaxation.
- Ex-Serviceman ST/SC gets age relaxation of 8 years.
Physically Handicapped Candidate relaxation time in SSC CHSL exam
Physically Handicapped candidates are also given this relaxation which is 10 years for general candidates.
- There is a relaxation of 13 years for OBC candidates.
- There is a relaxation of 15 years for SC/ST candidates.
SSC CHSL exam application fees
In SSC CHSL exam, the application fee is Rs.100 for the general candidate while the women & reserved candidates do not have to pay any application fee.
SSC CHSL selection process
In this exam, there is a computer based exam in Tiers 1.
Tier 2 is descriptive paper and
Tier 3 is typing test or skill test.
SSC CHSL Tier 1 exam pattern
SSC CHSL tier 1 exam is online and 100 objective type questions are asked, in which these questions come.
- 25 questions of English language,
- 25 Questions of General Intelligence,
- 25 Questions of Quantitative Aptitude
- 25 Questions of General Awareness
The maximum marks of each section is 50 and by adding the marks of 4 sections, this paper is of 200 marks.
SSC CHSL exam can be given in both Hindi and English language and there is negative marking also. The duration of the paper is of 60 minutes.

SSC CHSL tier 2 exam pattern
SSC CHSL tier 2 exam is conducted in pen and paper mode i.e. offline. The duration of the exam is 1 hour and the total marks are 100.
This exam has 2 sections:
- Essay Writing whose word limit is approx 200 to 250 words.
- Letter and Application Writing in which the word limit is approx 150 to 200 words.
The minimum qualifying marks for this exam is 33%.
SSC CHSL tier 3 exam pattern
In this there is a typing test for LDC, JSA, Postal Assistant, Sorting Assistant which is on computer and its language is Hindi and English.
This is a qualifying test and in this candidates will have to type in English language in 10 minutes at the speed of 30 words per minute.
In Hindi also you have to type at the speed of 30 words per minute.
While filling the online application form, you have to choose one option between English and Hindi.
DEO (Data Entry Operator) Typing Test
This exam is also qualifying, in which the speed of the candidates should be 8000 key depressions per hour on the computer.
For DEO (C&AG) i.e. DEO in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, this limit is 15000 Key Depressions per Hour.
For this, candidates are given English passage, whose right entry candidates have to do on the computer, the duration of this test is 15 minutes.
Candidates are selected on the basis of these three tiers and those candidates who are qualified for document verification have to appear with original documents and their photocopies.
Candidate should also have photo ID proof and recent passport size photographs and in this manner the selection process is completed after document verification.
SSC CHSL Salary
The salary received by the recruit through SSC CHSL exam is 24000 to 29000 rupees for LDC and JSA post.
Whereas for PASA & DEO post this amount is 30000 to 36000 rupees.
