Why is the stock market falling so sharply today?

Increasing cases of the new variant, there was a big fall in the stock markets around the world on Monday. The fourth-biggest decline of this year was recorded in the Indian market. At 12 noon, the selling increased so much that the Sensex had fallen 1879 points (3.30%) to 55133.

However, later it recovered 689 points and closed at 55822. Still, there was a decline of 1190 points (2.09%) in total. Shares of 28 companies included in the Sensex closed in the red mark.

Similarly, Nifty closed at 16614, weakening by 371 points (2.18%). On the other hand, the US stock market Dow Jones, Nasdaq, and S&P500 index fell up to 1.48%.

4 major reasons for the stock market fall

  1. New Variants: Restrictions in Europe, Lockdown in the Netherlands, Recession slowdown due to Germany stopping travel.
  2. Foreign Fund Selling: FPIs are selling. FIIs withdrew Rs 18480 crore in December itself.
  3. Interest rates, signs of increase: Federal Reserve ends bond purchases, Bank of England raises rates.
  4. Rate cut in China: China reduced the lending rate after April. This led to a weak trend in the Asian markets.

After the confirmation of the new variant in the world, the market fell 5.06% in 25 days, the value of companies in India decreased by Rs 13 lakh crore.

Indian stock market has fallen 10.32% from the highest level

The Sensex has fallen 6423 points (10.32%) since October 19. The same, 2973.08 points (5.06%) have fallen since November 25. After October 18, the market cap has decreased by Rs 22.12 lakh crore.
